What Drives Utah's Economy? Update
When I went to teach this, I didn't have time to revamp it first. And I was pretty frustrated--especially with the worksheet. It really just felt like busy work. So I revamped the PowerPoint a little, and also did a new worksheet. It's very similar, I just took out some of the questions that seemed irrelevant or nit-picky and just take forever for the kids to write. On Day 1, we did the Career Connection (again, I used my magnetic strips and did it on the white board instead of a worksheet.) Then we did this worksheet and PowerPoint. We didn't have time for the 50 careers, so we are doing that on Day 2. I'm also pretty anti-packet, so I didn't print out the whole packet. I just picked out from the packet what I wanted and made it a separate worksheet.

Cashiering Kahoot!
The original lesson comes with a PowerPoint that has a quiz for cashiering. I thought a Kahoot! would be a much more interactive way to do this quiz. Click on the button below to get the Kahoot! My kids LOVED THIS. Make sure they have a calculator open before starting. There is plenty of time built in for them to figure out the math questions.

Excel Cashiering Assignment by Bill Simpson
My amazing co-worker, Bill Simpson, made this Excel sheet for the cashiering section. In the original lesson plans, this assignment was done with...like...PEN AND PAPER. WHAT?? Why would you do that when you have EXCEL? Well, there are some schools in the state that DON'T have access to a computer for the business section, but for the other 95% of us, here is a MUCH more doable assignment! This Excel sheet has four assignments, all of which calculate totals automatically and score automatically. Students will get immediate feedback and can print their results, and the best part is--easy grading for YOU! Thank you SO MUCH Bill!
When we did this, I told the kids if they got a minimum of 50 pts, they would get full credit. But if they got the maximum 90 points, they got paid CTE cash for completing it.

I found a few errors on this when I did it with my class on 9/15/15, so if you downloaded it before then, you may want to download it again. This is the fixed version.

Cashiering Activity by Brian Schuster
Here is an activity Brian created by transferring the information on the worksheet to an online format.
Itinerary in Excel
I'm trying to use every opportunity to teach Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. So I tranfered the intinerary assignment to an Excel document where they learn to use Merge and Center, color back grounds, add a header, and wrap text. Here is the file!
