The Badge Builder Unit
The Badge Builder Unit is my baby! I have been honing this unit for 10 years--improving, changing, updating, and making it better all the time. Any student who went to my school in the last 10 years and had me in 7th grade (which nearly all of them do) would probably remember the Badge Unit as one of their favorite things they did in Junior High. This unit is intense but also a lot of fun an incredibly hands-on. The kids learn by going--that is why they remember it!
In this unit, students are put into companies, and go through an entire Business/Marketing simulation where they design a product, figure out the production cost and profit margins, build the product, make advertisements, and then sell the product to other students in the school. Badges are quite cheap to make after the initial investment of purchasing a badge machine. Depending on your numbers, the whole project can be done for under $200 a year. This file includes all the materials I use for this project. Full step by step instructions, the student packet, the Excel Business Plan where students figure their prices, a step by step student orientation PowerPoint, grading sheets with automatic checks, and more! Adverts to AdvertsI created this game for my advanced Marketing class, and it was a HUGE hit! The kids loved it and begged to play it again the next day! This game is taken from the popular Apples to Apples game. The students look at an advertisement, then look at the cards they have that are all the vocab words for the Marketing unit. They choose one card from their hand that most fits that ad, then argue with each other over which word is the best. This is a great way to reinforce vocab without them even realizing it! The file also includes blank cards in Word that you can go in and create your own vocab words. It could easily be adapted to other topics as well.

Marketing Trivia Game
This game is awesome and it's FREE! I have played this game with my 7th graders for years, and it's always a big hit. The game is in PowerPoint--I show it on my screen and demo it on their screens. There are six categories: Logos, slogans, jingles, general marketing, and miscellaneous. Each section has 8-9 questions that are interactive and include images, sounds, and video. Marketing changes rapidly so you may have to update it with new questions as slogans or commercials on it become obsolete.
