Leadership Unit
I haven't taught this yet, but will be teaching it next week. I'm writing it all in here now so I don't forget what I'm planning to do! I will make changes after I've taught it where needed. I expect this unit to take 3 days. There is no test in this unit.

Assignment 1 - Silent Lineup
I found this AWESOME website that has great ideas for group cooperation and leadership games - peacefirst.org. So I can't take all the credit for the activities! This activity is described in detail in the PDF below. You will need a larger room with open space, but even the hallway would work. Students must line up in order of birthdays--from Jan 1 to December 31. BUT--they cannot talk. They must find other ways to communicate with hand gestures, etc.
After this opener activity, discuss how they were able to communicate, and if there were people who tended to direct everyone else.

Assignment 2 - Leadership Prezi Part 1: Mission Statements, Vision, and Goals
I have created a Prezi that is used throughout the rest of all the segments of this section. Click on the button below to go to the Prezi. In the first section, there are quotes about leadership in general, and then we talk about Mission Statements, Vision, and Goals. There are examples from real companies included. Then there is a really fun assignment - Mission MadLibs. I created a Madlib assignment in Excel where the kids enter adjectives, verbs, etc, and they are plugged in to actual non-profit organization mission statements. It's HILARIOUS. Then the kids go find the actual mission statement and type it in. This can be printed and turned in as an assignment.

Assignment 3 - Leadership Styles
The next section of the Prezi discusses four leadership styles - Autocratic, Democratic, Laissez-Faire, and Paternalistic. Go over each of these types. I found a really great lesson on this at TeachersPayTeachers -- Management Styles by Marketing Mayhem. This assignment provides a whole setup for doing a roll-play with the different styles. I will not follow it word for word, but will use it in doing a roll-play with the kids where they act out the different management styles.
Assignment 4 - Time Management
The Prezi continues with a discussion about time management, including 12 tips on managing time better. I have created an Excel worksheet that they fill out after this activity, where they determine what their time management level is.

Assignment 5 - Teamwork
The Prezi leads a short discussion on teamwork and what the student's previous experiences have been with Teamwork. Again, there could easily be a worksheet involved here--if I create one, I'll add it. But I haven't done it yet.
Then there is another activity I got from peacefirst called Community Building. I have worked the scenario and the groups into the Prezi, but full instructions will need to be downloaded.
